THE RUPERT RIVER *WILL* BE DIVERTED

Postby admin » Thu Jan 18, 2007 12:27 am

It is official. The Rupert River, with its thunderous spectacular rapids, WILL be diverted. Hydro Quebec is starting work on it immediately. I don't know the timeline of exactly when the flow will be diverted. But I imagine that it will take some time to construct the necessary dams etc. Hydro Quebec's website says the project will be "commissioned" (ie, turned on) in 2010-2011. So we may get another few years of rapids watching and river running??

There was a push to try to prevent the diversion, but the forces at work in Quebec were too strong to prevent it.

Bottom line is ...

GET UP THERE TO SEE THIS SPECTACULAR RIVER WHILE IT IS STILL RUNNING!!
