IMPORTANT NOTICE Regarding Robert-Bourassa Powerstation

Postby Rally_T-115 » Mon May 21, 2007 11:58 pm

Just got back from a quick trip up the James Bay Road this past Victoria Day weekend.

Due to that 2005 journaliste stunt, the days of driving around the LG-2 complex at your own leisure are done and gone.

YOU MUST BOOK A TOUR 48h IN ADVANCE IF YOU WANT TO BE LET ONTO THE GROUNDS, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

If you do not book a tour, the best view you will ever get of the complex is at the lookout platform located at km 614 of the James Bay Road, a scenic viewpoint but everything is really far away - you'll need binoculars.

NO ONE CAN DRIVE THEIR VEHICLE ON THE GROUNDS ANYMORE. About 100m after the intersection with the road to Radisson, there is now a guarded Gate.

There is a new security procedure. Apparently, you are loaded into motorcoaches and get shuttled around the complex that way.

ENSURE YOU HAVE A TOUR BOOKED IN before you book your hotel stays, etc.

My mistake was booking the hotels before booking the tour. It is advertised as being open every day, that's why I didn't really worry about it. So I called on thursday to book the tour for sunday, but because this was an off-peak season holiday weekend the tour was closed for sunday (but open victoria day, just my luck). I went ahead with the trip anyways because I wanted to go visit the Rupert River while it was at full power from the spring thaw, plus it would be hard for me to book time off work to go any other time. When I learned that the tour was closed I was hoping that I could at least discreetly drive around on my own or at least be escorted, but when I arrived in Radisson, I was told "absolutely you cannot".

I could not even get to km 620 where the pavement ends to get the "end of the road" photo-op!

Bump.

I think this should be stickied or placed into the main JBR site. The "things to do in Radisson" page should be changed too.
