The Rupert River diversion will take place in November of 2009, according to Hydro Quebec's website.

See http://www.hydroquebec.com/rupert/en/pdf/journal_eastmain_08_11_en.pdf
Page 13.

2009 WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO VIEW THESE MAGNIFICENT RAPIDS OF THE RUPERT RIVER.
So we have one more year to see the magnificent rapids of the Rupert River before they disappear forever.

They have completed the spillway beside the dam site and the river is now diverted through it.
Work is underway on the actual Rupert dam.

Chasindaylight, I say we have a small rally at the crossing next year. Just a few of the faithful, I'll bring the food and do the cooking and you can fry the cabbage.

This sounds like a great idea. "Last of the Rupert Rally". Looks like there is plenty of nearby space to camp - or we can head up to Radisson and Chisasibi...

Should you go up there one last time?
A resounding "YES"!!!
If you don't you may regret it for a long time.
I know I will be back up there at least once next year, perhaps twice even.
It's not really all that far.

I plan to go in late August 2009. It will be sad that it may be the last time the Rupert will be in its natural form. I haven't heard about any delays with the project just that it seems to be on schedule. It will be a big natural loss for the Quebec nation.
